about

New Orleans was the cradle of jazz. From there the style spread out to the rest of the world, to finally get back home in all it’s varieties. How beautiful it is to see all genres and subgenres from traditional to modern to funk to blues coexist and cross-influence. It is for a good reason that the city is on many a musician’s bucket list!
Drummer Smokey Johnson had recorded many albums as a sideman for major labels such as Motown and Imperial Records, when in 1964 he made the two-part single “It ain’t my Fault”. The strong second line rhythm together with the powerful melody make it an all time favorite in New Orleans. It can be heard somewhere in town every day by brass bands, funk bands, you name it… Reason enough for RED to record our own version, to keep the city as close to our hearts as we can.

Their debut CD received a ****½ review in Dutch jazz glossy Jazzism and the band members get high praise from Wynton Marsalis and Terence Blanchard.
