They're the bluest kind of blues

This tune, composed in 1919, is inseparably linked to the soprano saxophone sound of Sidney Bechet, who recorded it in his later years with New Orleans bass legend Pops Foster. However, the most well-known version is by none other than clarinettist Jimmy Noone, who was a student of Bechet when he was a youngster. Both horn players use this piece as a slow vehicle for schmearing their lines with lots of vibrato over the tune’s minor chords. We like to shine a different light on it by applying a more jaunty groove.
